Cultural Safety Project

Status: Data Analysis Underway

This collaborative research project aims to establish a baseline understanding of cultural safety within the dietetic profession across Australia and Aotearoa (New Zealand). The aim is to generate evidence based recommendations that empower dietitians to deliver more effective and culturally responsive dietetic care.

Future of the Profession - Phase 2

Status: Recruitment and data collection underway

Prof Margaret Allman-Farinelli (The University of Sydney) leads this initiative. This piece of work follows from the recently completed “Future-proofing the nutrition and dietetic profession in Australasia” and has a focus on student perspectives of the future of dietetics and what attracts students to the profession. The aim is to explore recommendations to develop a diverse and inclusive cohort across Australia.

Economic Value of Dietitians

Status: Data Analysis Underway

Prof Eleanor Beck (University of New South Wales) and Assoc Prof Therese O’Sullivan (Edith Cowan University) lead this initiative that seeks to quantify the effectiveness and cost benefit of the work that dietitians do. While this initiative is still in the planning stages, the first case study will be in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.

Five Actions to Strengthen the Nutrition and Dietetics Profession into the Future: Perspectives from Australia and New Zealand

This paper aims to describe the specific actions required for nutrition professionals (nutrition scientists, nutritionists, dietitians) to realise the professions' workforce development vision of the future.

Nutrition & Dietetics: Public perceptions of dietetics services in Australia and New Zealand

Published: Nutrition and Dietetics, 2024

The aim of this study was to examine the expectations, perceptions, and attitudes about dietetics services among the Australian and New Zealand public to provide insights for building a future dietetics workforce that will meet consumer needs. This project is complementary to recent work by the research team which considered the views of expert stakeholders on the future of dietetics in Australia and New Zealand.
